Hi, I'm Britney, an instructional designer who believes great learning experiences are built on authenticity, empathy, and a little creativity. My path here started in an elementary classroom, where I discovered just how powerful the right learning experience can be. Today, I bring that same curiosity and care into designing eLearning for adult learners, blending solid instructional design principles with a genuine love of learning something new alongside every project I take on.
For three years, I taught elementary school — and if there's one thing that experience taught me, it's that learning sticks when it means something to the person experiencing it. I watched students light up not when I gave them the right answer, but when I gave them the right question, the right context, or the right moment of struggle to work through on their own. That distinction — between simply delivering information and actually creating understanding — has stayed with me ever since.
As much as I loved the classroom, I found myself constantly drawn to a bigger question: what does meaningful learning look like beyond childhood education? I wanted to explore how the same principles that helped a nine-year-old grasp a new concept could be applied to help an adult navigate a new skill, a new role, or a new way of thinking at work. Instructional design felt like the natural next step — a field where I could keep doing what I love most: learning something new myself, and then turning around and designing an experience that helps someone else learn it too.
I'm genuinely energized by the research and discovery side of instructional design — diving into a new topic, understanding it deeply, and then figuring out how to translate that complexity into something clear, engaging, and usable for someone else. I don't think learning has to be dry to be effective, and I don't think it has to be flashy to be enjoyable. My goal with every project is the same one I had in the classroom: create an experience that respects the learner, meets them where they are, and leaves them with real, lasting change in how they understand something.
Today, I bring that same curiosity and care into every course I build — grounded in solid instructional design principles, but never losing sight of the fact that there's a real person on the other end of the screen, trying to learn something new. Whether it's a scenario-based assessment or a full eLearning course, my aim is the same: make it authentic, make it enjoyable, and make it matter.
Learning doesn't stop when I close my laptop — if anything, that's where a lot of it begins. Whether I'm picking up a new hobby, planning my next get-together, or hitting a new trail, I'm always chasing that same feeling I try to build into my courses: genuine excitement and curiosity turning into real immersive engagement. Here's a glimpse into the things that keep me learning, growing, and inspired outside of work.
